Comment: The stay was almost perfect except for the barman on the last night was more interested to talk to friends than to give service to paying guests

Comment: We were extremely pleased with our choice of the Modus Hotel. It's location is superb, just a few minutes walk from both the beach and the pedestrian mall. The room we had was large and modern and the bed was very comfortable. The shower had strong water pressure. The room was kept clean and we enjoyed the chocolate at night and mineral water placed in the room each day. The food in the Bistro restaurant was scrumptious = we had the lamb chops. The breakfasts were great as well. The best thing of all, though, was the super friendly staff, who were there to help us every day of our stay.

Comment: A small group of us arrived in Varna a week before summer season started but found a lot to do in this fine beach town. the hotel was a great homebase. Lovely women working the front desk and always willing to lend a hand. smiles abound. very quiet despite being on a fairly busy street.
you are stumbling distance to the walking-only streets as well as the beach walk containing seemingly hundreds of bars.
at the modus you are also on the cusp of a massive park that borders the black sea.

Comment: The mOdus Hotel is a very modern and stylish boutique hotel right in the city center of Varna. The hotel is something you would expect say in Barcelona, but certainly not in Varna - all black marble, spotlights, designer furniture, etc.
All in all, I would give the hotel 4.5 stars based on Western European standards. Unfortunately the room prices also are at a Western European level.
The rooms were reasonably large, well equipped with A/C, flat screen TV, a safe, mini bar and comfortable beds. When booking a room, be careful about booking a seaside room. The hotel is on a busy road lined with high trees. Only rooms on the 5th and 6th floor have a view. IMHO it's a better bet to get a more quiet room facing the back courtyard.
The hotel staff was attentive, polite and very helpful. The breakfast buffet was very generous and of excellent quality. The coffee was bit strong for our tastes, but hey we're in Bulgaria!
A very nice touch is the free WiFi throughout the hotel and the free Internet terminal downstairs, next to the restaurant.
The restaurant is a nice (but very expensive for Bulgaria) place to eat dinner or lunch. The food wasn't quite up to our expectations for the prices charged. We wound up going up the stairs to the pedestrian mall and ate several times at the "Happy Bar and Grill", who offered very nice food (with an English menu with pictures of every dish) at a quarter of the price of the mOdus.

Comment: Had a wonderfull 2 night stay at the modus which is touted as the best hotel in Varna and I can believe it. It has that classy, urban metro feel to it, dark woods, lush fabrics etc. Room was modern but comfortable, all amenities, good quality bathrooms. Breakfast is excellent and the bistro is apparnetly good altough we did not eat here - there are some very very good restaurants within a 5 min walk. Parking is either directly outside the hotel altohugh you have to pre-book these spaces or in the basement of the hotel.
